The franchise that made me fall in love

Image
Alright, let’s talk about a cornerstone of horror cinema—my love for the   Scream   franchise. It's a series that not only embraces its genre but gleefully reinvents it, reminding us why we fell in love with scary movies in the first place. It was in fact the first horror/slasher film I ever watched and what made me fall in love with the horror genre.  First, can we give a standing ovation to Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson for kicking it off back in 1996? The beauty of  Scream  lies in how it fuses a gripping slasher narrative with a wink-and-nod commentary on the horror genre itself. It's like the films are saying, ā€œHey, we know the rules, and we’re going to have fun breaking them.ā€ From the very first scene with Drew Barrymore (iconic, by the way), I was hooked. Ghostface doesn’t just hunt victims—he toys with them, turning the simple act of answering the phone into a death sentence. Each movie thrives on suspense, twists, and self-aware humor, which makes re...

TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS

Image
Today’s social and political climate is increasingly and incredibly terrifying. Seeing what has been happening the past few years has been so heartbreaking for me as i’m sure it has many others. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community I truly believe we aren’t free until we’re all free and our trans brothers and sisters are definitely not. Over the years we came a long way and for a while things were looking positive but now we’re regressing not progressing when it comes to the trans community having the exact same rights as cis people and being able to live their lives without the fear of oppression, transphobia and physical danger.  The recent supreme court decision in the UK will only raise the cases of transphobia, it already has. The amount of posts i’ve seen on social media from transphobes this past few days is disheartening. They aren’t afraid to openly be bigots anymore.  I personally will never be able to wrap my mind around the reason for it. Trans people don’t want ext...

Living with migraines

Image
I have suffered from migraines since I was around eight years old. There was a lot of back and forth to the gp as my mum knew something wasn’t right but was dismissed a few times by the doctors until one gp finally diagnosed me with migraines and then put me on a preventative medication for them. What are migraines?  In short a migraine tends to be a very bad headache with a throbbing pain on one side of the head. However not everyone presents the same, people experience different symptoms.  Personally I have warning signs before I head into a full migraine attack. Here is what I experience: Aura’s. This is big warning for me. It’s usually the first one I get. For anyone who hasn’t experienced aura before it’s basically where you get problems with your vision and get weird lines/flashing lights in your eyes. Sometimes I also get temporary vision loss or blurred vision too.  Numbness or tingling in my face and down one side of my body. Loss of speech/slurred speech....

Dating in your thirties

Image
I’ve been single for about nine years and I decided last year that I was going to ā€œget back out thereā€ it didn’t end great for me but i’ve downloaded the apps again and i’m going to see what happens. When I was younger, late teens early twenties I had so much confidence and was so upfront and open, i’d ask anyone I fancied if they wanted to meet up or whatever but I feel a lot different now, I am thirty two at the end of this year and I honestly have the absolute worst anxiety about even speaking to people online, never mind meeting up with them. Everyone around me is getting married and having children but I personally don’t want all that and never have, so I didn’t feel like I needed to rush to find someone, I assumed one day we’ll find each other when the time is right. Having said that, it doesn’t seem to be happening the way I hoped it would so I guess I need to start making some moves and putting in some effort. Some of the messages I have received already have made me question w...

Thirty & Childless

Image
I’m now thirty years old and of course with that a lot of people around me are getting pregnant and having children but that’s genuinely not something I desire. I’ve actively chosen to not have children and usually I don’t feel the need to explain to anyone why but i’m tired of seeing people judging those of us who wish not to pro create. For years I have said I don’t want children and i’m always met with responses such as ā€œoh you’ll change your mind.ā€ Or ā€œthat seems selfishā€. Why? Why do people feel so comfortable making comments like that? It happens all the time and it’s beyond irritating at this point. Having children isn’t the be all and end all of life. Everyone has their own thoughts, feelings and plans for life. If you chose to have children, get married and have a cute little family life that’s completely fine, but also so is not wanting or having that. Family isn’t just a couple and some children, they can come in all shapes and sizes. A person and their cat or dog or whateve...

Kitty got fangs, the kitty got claws

Hi, hello, bonjour.  I spend a lot of time listening to music, as i’m sure many of you do too so I thought i’d put together a playlist of some of my favourite songs, ones i’ve been listening to loads in March.  They aren’t all necessarily new releases, some are and some are just songs i’ve been listening to a lot again. It’s not just one specific genre and has plenty of different sounds to it so I think there’s probably a song for everyone on there. You can check it out here:  march playlist  <3 Enjoy xox instagram  //  tiktok
