TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS

Today’s social and political climate is increasingly and incredibly terrifying. Seeing what has been happening the past few years has been so heartbreaking for me as i’m sure it has many others. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community I truly believe we aren’t free until we’re all free and our trans brothers and sisters are definitely not. Over the years we came a long way and for a while things were looking positive but now we’re regressing not progressing when it comes to the trans community having the exact same rights as cis people and being able to live their lives without the fear of oppression, transphobia and physical danger.

The recent supreme court decision in the UK will only raise the cases of transphobia, it already has. The amount of posts i’ve seen on social media from transphobes this past few days is disheartening. They aren’t afraid to openly be bigots anymore.

I personally will never be able to wrap my mind around the reason for it. Trans people don’t want extra rights or special treatment they just want to live their lives as the rest of us do.

So how can we be true allies? Educating ourselves. Take some time out of your day to read about and listen to the experiences, challenges and victories of the trans community. Making sure we use the correct pronouns for people, it sounds simple right? That’s because it is. If you’re unsure of someone’s pronouns use neutral ones until you do know. Speak up against discrimination. Whether that’s in the workplace, school, online or even at home.

Supporting trans rights isn’t just about being ā€œniceā€ or ā€œwokeā€ā€”it’s about building a kinder, more inclusive world where everyone can thrive. And that benefits all of us, not just some of us.

Trans people face discrimination in all walks of life: accessing healthcare, the workplace and social settings. For example 70% of trans people report experiencing transphobia whilst trying to access general healthcare. 63% have experienced transphobia whilst seeking employment. 99% that were surveyed have experienced online transphobia. These are all extremely high percentages. They’re shocking to see especially in the year of 2025. We’re supposed to be becoming a more progressive accepting society, but sadly we aren’t.

Trans people are not a threat to us. My social media and me myself in person will always be a safe space for trans people. I will fight with you and for you always.

There is currently a parliament petition to allow trans people to self identify their legal gender running which has at the time of writing this 69k signatures and needs 100,000 for it to be considered in parliament. Please take a moment out of your day to sign! It takes 2 minutes. You can sign here

Stay spooky & support our trans community.
