28 Years Later – The Rage Lives On π§♂️
28 Years Later leans into the chaos full-force, and it doesn’t hold your hand. The world is even more shattered than it was in 28 Weeks Later, and the tension coils like a spring from the very first shot. It feels raw and eerily real, almost like a documentary from hell—with jump scares. The cinematography is once again gorgeously bleak.
The rage virus has evolved. Of course it has. We’ve had nearly three decades for humanity to try (and fail) at containment, and the virus has been taking notes. There are twists to the infection that feel both scientifically terrifying and morally grey. The film doesn’t just explore survival—it pokes at our humanity, our institutions, and what “normal” looks like after everything’s burned down.
We welcome massive stars like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes to the 28 franchise, all three give absolutely everything to their roles, I mean would we expect anything less from them? No. We also welcome Alfie Williams into his first big Hollywood acting role, he takes centre stage throughout the film as Spike and you definitely wouldn’t know this was his first film. He is absolutely amazing and I truly believe he has a lot of opportunities to look forward to in the future.
I throughly enjoyed the film and I am really excited to see where Spike’s story goes in the two follow ups, as it has been confirmed that this is the first in a trilogy. I think if you haven’t watched the first two films you could watch this one without feeling as though you’re missing something as it’s all pretty much explained throughout the film, so you won’t find yourself feeling lost. It for sure is completely different to the first two films, but then again what would the world look like 28 years following a virus ravaging the country, I think it possibly could be just as it is portrayed in this film.
Cillian Murphy made his come back for this film too, no not as Jim (28 days later) but as an executive producer however there are rumours he will be in the next two entries into the trilogy which I do hope is true. I’m very intrigued to see whether he’ll return as Jim or whether we’ll see him play a completely different character.
I have to take a second to talk about the ending. What in the holy hell was that? We are introduced to another familiar actor, I won’t say too much because I don’t want to spoil it but we definitely will be seeing them in the next film in the series. I had some thoughts about what was happening so I googled it and I was right, which I did find a little odd, due to who the character was taking inspiration from. Once you’ve watched the film & if you’re British you will totally get it.
All in all I’d give 28 Years Later
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend it and if you haven’t watched the previous two films, i’d suggest giving them a watch too.
Stay spooky xo
